About Me

You are probably wondering what armor combat is. I asked myself the very same question when I first learned about the sport. If you like swords, battle-axes, Dungeons and Dragons, or even Game of Thrones (Team Stark!) for that fact of the matter then I think you are going to like what you hear.

Armored combat is a sport based on medieval fighting – you know those knights who wear shinny armor and wield swords? If you think I am joking then I direct you to this place here to prove you wrong. There may not be any real dragons to fight, but as a knight you are still fighting to prove your worth. In this case it is to showcase your strengths, mindset, and dedication to the upcoming sport of medieval combat fighting. I welcome you to the world of the Armored Combat League.

I didn't know such a sport existed until I learned from one of my girlfriends from art school that she was training for the sport; I always knew her as a beautiful and artistically talented young woman with stunning tattoos from head to foot and an addict for makeup - but a knight? I was taken aback after going through her Facebook photos of her training and trying out new armor pieces for her kit. After learning she was going to be participating in her first ever women's fight, I decided to go and see for myself what the hype was about.

If only you could be there in person, you would be mind blown like I was seeing the amount of work that goes into chapter fights at this tiny place called The Knights Hall. The sound of crunching metal and whipping gusts of weapons flying through the air – shouts from both teams riling up and getting heated over a knight's feet placement, or telling them to keep their head up or else succumb to defeat by falling onto their knees...The energy was phenomenal and overwhelming to me. Who knew medieval fighting could be such a dangerous yet thrilling sport to watch? What would my parents think of this kind of sport?

Two days later, I was swinging kettle bells, throwing wasters (a nickname of wooden swords) and "attempting" my best at duckwalks with my girlfriend at my side. At the end of the class I was given a firm, friendly handshake from my teacher (whom I can now considered as my mentor) with a jack o'lantern wide grin on his face: "Welcome to The Knights Hall." I was one of the team – the family.

The Hall has changed my life. For one, I was someone who despised exercising. I have always been heavy even as a kid and have put effort and energy into getting fit, whether it was going on a strict diet by doctors order or going to the gym every day to ride an elliptical for an hour and a half. I honestly found it boring and couldn't see how people enjoyed the lifestyle; there was nothing motivating about it. What would usually happen at the end is I would go every day for a month, trickle down to twice a week, twice a month, and then stop going altogether. My diet was a constant struggled as well, when even through the limit of junk food and inclusion of physical activity I was gaining weight. Eventually through a doctor's diagnoses I was given the symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome; while the weight slowly yo-yo'ed my health was getting better. Yet, it was still a continuous struggle. With PCOS, its a battle against your own hormones. Darn you hormones!

As soon as I joined The Knights Hall exercising was a drug. If I missed a class I would go crazy. I found joy and purpose to exercise – to better myself as a person both mentally and physically. I also changed up my diet after a close family member got sick due to a tick bite and went on a holistic vegetarian diet to feel better. Since December 2017 I have gone the Paleo route to maintain my warrior health for Knight Fit.

I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted this blog to be about, but people have been asking me about armored combat since I first joined. So, I decided to share with you folks what it is that I do. There will be a mix of content on this site, as I am not sure yet what exactly to post, but I hope you find enjoyment out of this experience like I have!

Sincerely,

Lady Cait
